3-Day Algarve Tour

3 Days

From the Roman era to the Muslim period, through the Christian reconquest and the age of Portuguese Discoveries, the Algarve is steeped in history that beckons exploration. This region is adorned with millennia-old traces, spanning from the Neolithic period to more recent and equally captivating archaeological sites, including those from the Roman era. The Algarve presents a rich tapestry of history, inviting visitors to uncover its fascinating past at every turn.

Located on the migration route of many peoples, the Algarve has often benefited from the sea. Five centuries of Arab influence have forever marked this region, starting with its name: Al-Gharb, meaning “The West.”

The Arab presence in the Algarve, which lasted from the 8th to the 13th centuries, continues to leave a lasting imprint on the region. You can still see their influence today in the names of towns, agricultural practices, and architectural styles, especially in the intricate designs of terraces and chimneys, as well as the characteristic whitewashed buildings that define the landscape.

In the early 15th century, during the height of Portuguese maritime expansion, Lagos and Sagres emerged as prominent centers under the guidance of Prince Henry the Navigator. The world-renowned Sagres School transformed the Algarve into a vital hub for exploration, celebrated not only for its stunning white sand beaches but also for its rich historical significance.

We set off to explore Algarve’s stunning beaches, visiting Praia da Oura and Olhos de Água before reaching glamorous Vilamoura, known for its marina and upscale casino. We’ll admire the Baroque-tiled church in Almancil, then head to Sagres for a boat trip and to visit the historic Sagres Fortress. This area, rich in five centuries of Muslim heritage, is reflected in the charming architecture of Lagos. Finally, we’ll relax at the Santa Catarina Fortress at Praia da Rocha, enjoying the lively atmosphere.
